SIN EATER //

✋chewy lava rock, leca pebble, and perlite
👃a bowl of sinful milky porridge with jujubes (Chinese red dates), pink peppercorns, black currants, raisins, caraway seed, nutmeg, saffron, rich vanilla bean, a splash of smoked cognac, and a hint of cinnamon.

"Abhorred by the superstitious villagers as a thing unclean, the sin-eater cut himself off from all social intercourse with his fellow creatures by reason of the life he had chosen; he lived as a rule in a remote place by himself, and those who chanced to meet him avoided him. This unfortunate was held to be the associate of evil spirits; only when a death took place did they seek him out, and when his purpose was accomplished they burned the wooden bowl and platter from which he had eaten the food handed across, or placed on the corpse for his consumption." (Funeral Customs, B. Puckle, 1926)

The practice of sin-eating was an Irish custom also widely practiced in other countries. Sin eaters would sit with the bodies of the newly dead, take some of their blood, mix it with food or porridge, and consume it, absorbing their sins so they would be able to pass on to the afterlife. Sin eaters were people who believed in no afterlife or who had already committed so much wickedness, there was no hope for their soul to be saved in the afterlife. (paraphrased from ogearain on TikTok)

"An earlier and cruder form of the ceremony was to bring the sin eater into the chamber of the deceased, where he received, sometimes with money, food across the body of the corpse. Having eaten the food in the presence of the dead, he was driven out of the house with execrations and abuse, sticks, cinders and every available missile being hurled at him." (The Irish Times, 1931)

Sin Eater is a chewy lava rock, leca pebble, and perlite slime scented like a bowl of sinful milky porridge with jujubes (Chinese red dates), pink peppercorns, black currants, raisins, caraway seed, nutmeg, saffron, rich vanilla bean, a splash of smoked cognac, and a hint of cinnamon. Warming spices & creamy richness envelop simmering fruits for a bowl of comfort that will fill you with life...for now.

It comes with 2 oz of "sinner's blood" to add to your porridge, plus a bag of ghosts, demons, skulls and “crumbled ashes”, as well as your choice of either/both a realistic skull charm or a bat charm.
